Work experience

2019-2023: Freelance visual arts writer, copywriter, researcher, historian, artist.

 

Contributing exhibition reviews, interviews and reports to such titles as Visual Artists' News Sheet (since 2014) and Irish Arts Review, teaching art history in the community. writing catalogue notes, building an art practice, and volunteering as a creative adviser with Creative Lives (since 2022).

2016-19: Part-time teaching assistant, The University of Dublin, Trinity College.

 

Delivering lectures, small-group teaching and seminars. Contributing to a first-year module design, preparing and delivering course material, conducting site visits, setting and marking assignments, providing pastoral support.

2014-2019: Member visual & historical panel and guest lecturer, Hugh Lane Gallery.

​

Researching, preparing and delivering PowerPoint talks on wide-ranging artists and topics, giving talks and tours to adults and school children, assisting with artist workshops. Completed garda vetting and child-protection training.

2003-07: Freelance journalist.

 

Contributing to Sunday Business Post and other newspaper supplements. Researching, interviewing and writing readable, edited copy to tight deadlines, including profiles and reports.

2001-03: Freelance editor Mothers & Babies (Irish Independent) and journalist.

 

Planning issues, commissioning and editing articles, adjusting page layouts, reworking flat plans to accommodate advertising requirements, liaising with the ad manager and designers, growing the title from 16 to 48 pages.

1989-2000: Co-publisher G4 magazine (editing/subbing, liaising with contributors, admin); freelance journalist and sub-editor for WV Publications, IPC Magazines and Forward Publishing, London (writing reviews, subbing on Maire Claire and IBM's HelpWare magazine); staff writer and assistant editor, WV Publications, London (testing/reviewing consumer electronics, liaising with contributors and the editor).
